I am old enough to remember Orville Schell as one of the more reasoned and informed voices in academic and political dialogues a couple of decades. As such I was shocked and saddened to see him having deteriorated into a third-rate political hack, having completely lost not only his political courage but also his intellectual capacity. I feel really sorry for him. By comparison, scholars like Jeffrey Sachs are enlightening the world but with true intellectual wisdom and strength.
